Shorelines Cleanup Day

Hong Kong's shorelines are more than just lines drawn on maps - they have become a part of our lives. Our coastal waters and shores are not only home to hundreds of wildlife species, they also provide venues for various recreational activities like swimming, wind-surfing, dragon boat racing, etc.

Ho Yu students have strong awareness of conserving our nature and protecting our environment including keeping our shorelines clean. A group of them attended a talk on marine pollution in Hong Kong on 5th March. These students, led by the Geography teacher, teacher-in-charge of Civic Ambassadors and Volunteer Team, joined ‘Shorelines Cleanup Day’ launched by Hong Kong Women Development Association Limited on 16th March. They collected the refuse they found on the shores at Ha Pak Nai Beach, recorded and analysed the data collected.

Gaining this hands-on experience, participating students have not only contributed to a cleaner and greener coastal environment but also gained a better understanding of the causes and effects of, as well as the solutions to marine pollution. They have become even more passionate about keeping our shorelines clean and protecting our environment.
